Born in Jersey City, 70-year-old Albert Laurence Di Meola burst on the scene in 1974 and has establlished himself in the world of jazz, jazz fusion. world music, and latin jazz.
Di Meola's career breakthrough came after joining Chick Corea's Return to Forever group in 1974. He launched, from 1976 afterwards, a successful and critically acclaimed solo career, noted for his technical mastery, complex compositions and explorations of Latin music. Highlights of his work are Elegant Gypsy, his Friday Night in San Francisco collaboration and the World Sinfonia trilogy.
An alumnus of Berklee College of Music and a Grammy Award winner, Di Meola's successful career includes high-profile collaborations such as Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Larry Coryell, Steve Winwood, Jaco Pastorius, Paco de Lucía, Bill Bruford, John McLaughlin, Jan Hammer, Jean-Luc Ponty, Steve Vai and others.
DiMeola has won numerous awards during his illustrious career, including a Grammy and a latin Grammy.
After suffering a hesrt attack in September of 2023 while performing in Romania, he returned to performing in January of 2004.
